Hollow Metal Door Cores (Steel Door Cores)

(256)851-6670

Every Mesker hollow metal door comes with one of four cores. For their uses, strengths and weaknesses, we invite you to read on.

Door Cores

• Honeycomb

• Urethane

• Polystyrene

• Mineral Fiberboard

polystyrene

Polystyrene is the core of our standard Mesker hollow metal door because it gives you excellent acoustical and insulating properties. It's a steel door with a good hollow metal door fire rating and a good hollow metal door insulation, making it a good choice for exterior or interior use.

honeycomb

Honeycomb is a frequently used hollow metal door core. It's the standard steel door core for our competitors because it's less expensive. Honeycomb steel doors have good acoustical properties but are poor insulators. They're also susceptible to mold and mildew, so unsuitable for exterior use.

urethane

Urethane steel doors are the best insulators, but cannot carry a hollow metal door fire rating. So, they're generally used as exterior steel doors where there's little chance of fire.

fiberboard

Fiberboard hollow metal door cores are used in our Temperature Rise Door because they resist heat transfer. But fiberboard cores are relatively heavy, weighing one and half times as much as the other steel doors and putting extra stress on the opening.

Mesker hollow metal doors comply with SDI, ANSI, ASTM and ADA requirements and exceed all test criteria available for physical endurance and cycle of use. We also have a large variety of custom hollow metal doors.

Our quality and innovation make Mesker Steel Doors your best value.
